Today, on COOKING with anna: Burrito Bowl. I have to give Erin some credit here; I had everything required for some mighty fine burritos except the tortillas, so Erin said "make a burrito bowl!" Which is genius, and totally not her idea. So, thanks, Chipotle.

Step One: Build a kitchen. Not sure how? It's chapter one of DIY with anna.

You won't need an oven for this, but you will be using the range. You'll want to scare up a microwave as well, or I suppose you could make your own. Get a nice Tupperware box and then fill it up with waves, so full that they become compressed -- micro, even. I obviously haven't a clue how microwaves work.

It's the ingredients! Hooray!
1 cup Minute Rice (or Hour Rice, if it's all you've got)
1 cup red beans
A couple ounces of Mexican flavoured shredded cheese
1.5 tbsp salsa con queso
1 dollop salsa
3 dollops sour cream

Start one cup of water heating. Try your hardest not to look at the pot ever, even when you're turning on the burner. One cup of water in an unwatched pot will take four or five minutes to boil, tops; a watched pot will take thirty-two hours. It's been scientifically proven. Something to do with the disturbances in air pressure caused by the convex shape of eyeballs being pointed towards the pot. Trust me, you can't make up this sort of thing.

Instead of watching the pot, measure one cup of (drained) red beans into a bowl and microwave it for thirty seconds or so. I would strongly suggest buying pre-seasoned beans, as these plain ones smelled exactly like dog food and looked like they were sitting in spit (hence the draining).

Even after heating, the dog food smell lingered. So I opened up a can of enchilada sauce, poured some of that in, and gave it another thirty seconds in the microwave. Much better.

By the time I was done with the beans, my water was boiling, so I turned off the burner and dumped in my cup of Minute Rice. After covering the pot, I let it sit for five minutes to let the rice do its magic. If you don't have Minute Rice, well, you're obviously much more patient than I am.

Five minutes later and tada! Nice, fluffy rice. Yum.

I mixed the salsa con queso into the rice for some flavour. If the jar's been in the fridge, you'll probably have to microwave it for ten or twenty seconds. So, rice.

Rice with beans on top. I sprinkled the Mexican flavoured cheese (which I really like but am not convinced tastes like actual Mexicans) over the top and microwaved it for about forty-five seconds. It started the cheese melting and made sure everything inside was nice and hot.

The finished product. Do try to be a little artistic with the toppings, but don't be fooled into thinking you can make sour cream do anything it doesn't want to. You're done! I didn't come close to finishing all of mine, but maybe you've got a bigger appetite than me. Or a dog.
