Happy due date to me and Baby M! I was hoping that I might have had the baby a couple of days ago (and wouldn’t need to do another pregnancy post), but a person can’t really complain about making it to forty weeks. Looking back on the past nine months (and change), it’s been a textbook pregnancy, with no complications and very little stress beyond all the typical worries and waiting. It seems like most of the relatives I’ve talked to about pregnancy have said they also enjoyed being pregnant, so perhaps we just come from good, hardy baby-making stock.
Baby’s Size: I’m going to guess 21+” and 8+lbs, just based on what I’m expecting her to measure when she’s born. (I was 22″ and 8.8lbs, I think.) It’s pretty crazy to think that there’s a newborn-sized baby inside me right now. All chubby and round and hopefully with lots of hair.
My Size: I lost another 1.5lbs over the past two weeks, which means I’m down to a total gain of 23lbs. I want to write a post about the things that surprised me about pregnancy, and weight gain is definitely one of those things. Both because I thought I would gain much more — and all over — and because the gain was so unevenly distributed over time (very low in the beginning, lots in the middle / third tri, and then back to hardly anything). Bodies just do what they do.
Movement: And how! Everything I read keeps saying that Baby M’s movements will be smaller and more subtle now that she’s short of room, but I don’t think she’s received that message. I can only imagine that she’ll be happy to be out in the world, with plenty of space for all her flailing (until it’s time for a baby straightjacket/swaddle).
Complaints: The last two days of nausea haven’t been any fun, nor has waking up around 3:00am this week. On the other hand, I’m hoping both are signs of Baby M’s impending arrival, in which case I really can’t complain!
Looking Forward: To having an outside baby soon — I hope!
