Today’s big excitement was the delivery of my new camera — a Nikon D5200. I was nervous about moving to an entry-/mid-level camera from my more pro-end D200, but since it’s newer, the specs should actually be higher on the D5200. It gets great reviews, and I’ve been wanting a Nikon DLSR that does video since before they started making them. It was really gloomy out by the time the camera arrived, so I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to really try it out. I was disappointed by the level of noise in this photo (ISO400), but I have to admit that the D200 makes photos that are just as grainy in low light conditions. I’m just feeling hyper-critical because I’m worried I’ll be disappointed.
Next week, most of my Christmas gifts (for other people) will arrive! Holiday shopping has been on my list of ‘better do it before the baby arrives’ items. I decided to convert to the ‘something they want, something they need, something to wear, something to read’ philosophy of gift giving, which really helped when I was trying to come up with good gift ideas (I generally buy/make gifts for my parents and Rob — and now the baby — and I bake cookies for extended family). The only danger of being prepared so early on is that I won’t be able to wait to show people their cool gifts. I guess I’ll have a newborn soon to distract me!
