– Because I’m super organized (in this one instance), I have a naming convention for the images I use on twelve22: YYYY-MM-DDsubject.jpg. You know, where ‘subject’ is whatever is in the photo. As you can imagine, I get pretty muscle-memory-y about typing the year; I’m starting to wonder how long it will be before I stop typing 2012 every third time or so. An old problem, but in a (slightly) new way.
– I made these chocolate pretzel cookies a few days ago as a gift for Rob to bring to his mum. The bits of ‘salt’ are actually coffee-flavored sprinkles. This one got a little beaten up on the trip from Hinckley to Minneapolis (I had to save a couple for quality-control purposes, obviously). Excellent recipe, fun to make and eat, two thumbs up.
– I think if Nova had her way right now, I’d be standing at the back door to let her outside, so she could sniff around the yard until her feet froze, at which point she’d want to come back in. But I’d just stay by the door in order to let her out again once they’d thawed. If she had her way. Instead, I’m being a cruel dog mother and not even putting everything aside to rub her belly non-stop.
– I had my taxes done today (I do most of the figuring of numbers, and then the tax man puts them into the form, since I’m a freelancer and like the reassurance that I’m not missing anything and/or breaking the law), and I’ll be getting a refund for both state and federal taxes (yay!). Mainly that’s because I had so many expenses last year (boo!). I have no strong feelings towards accounting/paperwork one way or the other, but I do like to get taxes out of the way as soon as possible. It seems to be the norm to leave it until the last minute, though — where do you fall on the spectrum?

As a couple of freelancers, we already did all the accounting stuff last week. Haven’t submitted them for refund yet. Software makes everything so easy, we quit paying the 425 for the accountant.
Oh, my CPA isn’t that expensive, thankfully! This coming year is going to be particularly messy to figure out, tax-wise, but maybe someday everything will be so straightforward that I’ll feel safe doing taxes myself!
We take care of ours as soon as we get our W-4s in the mail…we used to e-file, but we take them to a CPA now that we’re married…our CPA doesn’t charge very much, and I agree that it’s nice to know that we didn’t miss something or break the law somewhere!
