Henny the dog is hardly any bigger than an iPad! As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t really think of Henny or Nova as being particularly small — they’re about the same size as the cats, so that’s just all the bigger pets run in this house. But other people always say they’re so tiny, so I guess they must be. Henny’s looking really trim, I guess because she and Nova spend a lot of time galloping around the house. And even though Nova still weighs a pound or two less, she’s actually taller than Henny now.
Speaking of Nova, she finally lost her last baby tooth a few days ago. Both her adult top canines came in before she’d lost the baby teeth. The first one came out a couple of months ago, probably, and I was starting to worry about the second one, as little dogs like chihuahuas sometimes wind up needing to have them pulled. When I found out how much that could cost, I started telling Nova that I was going to pull it out myself if she didn’t lose it soon. But it fell out on its own, so hooray. Getting Henny’s teeth cleaned is more important, and it’s the same price (anesthesia is the main cost). Anyway, now Nova has no baby teeth, and she finished her bag of puppy food a couple of weeks ago. So I’m expecting her to start acting like a sane, adult dog any day now.

ha ha, don’t hold your breath on that one!! I love them both, they melt my heart,
we have never had a dog as tiny as Henny and Nova but my brother inlaw has a one , very sweet but a little shy and trembling around strangers she is, our dogs were always bigger so their baby teeth if lost inside were easy to see, my husband and I have had three dogs in our lives together, a German shepherd mix, a Water Spaniel and a Terri poo, they all lived to good old ages, Henny’s sweet personality and over all cuteness has inspired me to adopt a tiny dog,
Thanks for such a nice comment! I never liked little dogs until I met Henny, and now I’m converted. Having had big dogs in the past, I can say that little guys are SO much easier to care for. They have their own issues (small bladders, for one), but it’s like having the best of cats and dogs in one animal.
Just a quick comment re dog teeth cleaning, I live in the UK where they sell Dentastix which were fantastic for cleaning dog teeth without the dog toothbrush and toothpaste or the trip to the vets. They worked wonderfully well with my dogs, got rid of plaque . If you can find them in the USA its worth giving them a try.
Thanks for the comment, Lorraine! Henny’s teeth are in rough shape, plaque-wise, since nobody took care of them the first three years of her life. My dogs chew on bones and rawhide, but I don’t like giving them things that are easily eaten (it takes a long time for them to get through a rawhide), because chihuahuas are so small and prone to weight gain. I think Henny needs a proper cleaning, and then maybe the occasional dental treat plus maintenance by me will keep her mouth healthy. Good thinking, though!
