iPhone Morning

I was outside this morning to mow a path through a field of 4′-high weeds; we haven’t been able to walk around to the back of the property since the spring. (I’m really glad that, faced with two Cub Cadet models, we chose the one with the bigger engine — it’s a little workhorse!) When I was done, I pulled out my phone to take a few photos.

1. My sunflowers are in bloom — I’ve never grown such tall, big-flowered ones before! 2. This is the little pond, which is in the pasture, a little ways from the house. 3. I built the wooden garden fence in August, so I’ll have to wait until next year to plant in all that extra space. 4. Just some of our trees.

Oh! While I was typing this, I spotted the two naughty neighborhood dogs coming down the drive, so Henny and I went outside. They’re naughty because they have a habit of chasing cars, but they’re actually super non-confrontational when they see a real person. For the first time, Henny saw them and was interested. The black lab spotted me and took off for home, but the little black and white terrier had gone around to the back yard, so I went back there to chase him away. He went around the other side of the house, and when I got to the front, he and Henny were sniffing each other. As soon as he saw me, he ran down the drive again, and Henny immediately started crying. And is now inside, looking out the front window, still crying. They just met, but clearly they’re doggie soulmates.
