Mornings No. 6

Fruit in the summer — the best, right? This peach was from the supermarket, of course, but I’ve been picking raspberries like crazy every time I’m in town. The bushes are so overgrown that I’m going to have to dig up some of the canes and bring them to Hinckley. I also started picking the cherries from my Nanking bush. Last year, I just ate them, sometimes in yogurt, but they’re pretty small (about the size of cranberries) and much softer than regular cherries, so pitting them is difficult. I think that, once I’ve picked all the cherries, I’ll boil them, strain out the pits, and make a small batch of jam. I’m not making any plans for the apples on my Haralson tree, though — the squirrels probably have plans of their own.
