I woke up in La Crosse, WI this morning (it wasn’t a surprise — we drove down yesterday). This is where I went to college, and Rob and I were dating during my last year here, so we both have fond memories of the place. I’ve been back only twice (well, three times, now) in the past eight years, and it’s incredible how much it’s changed. Most of the shops I remember are still here (although two of the places I lived — a dorm and the first house I rented — have been torn down), but there’s been a huge amount of new construction. Both on campus (new dorms, mostly) and ‘downtown’ (office buildings along the river and a bunch of cafes/restaurants to feed the new workers).
I woke up around 6:00am this morning, had some eggs and toast from the complimentary breakfast area at the hotel, and then went for a walk along the river and up to the People’s Food Co-op (which has grown since I was in college and is amazing now). The boat in the photo above is the La Crosse Queen, which goes on sight-seeing tours. Rob and I are actually going to hop aboard in an hour — it’s something I never did during the years that I lived here.

JEALOUS. I was just thinking that it would be really nice to be out on the water today, in some form or another — swimming, canoeing, floating on blow-up something or another…
(Not really jealous — actually very happy for you.
You would have liked it! It was cool and windy out on the boat, instead of hot and muggy back on land.
