This cat cracks me up:

I uploaded a heap of pet pictures to a new flickr set yesterday, by the way. For people who like to look at other people's pets. But back to Beany. I find her so fascinating because she has hobbies. Booty doesn't. He sleeps and eats (and occasionally throws up), and looking for a new place to nap is as active as he gets. Aside from the sleeping and eating, Beany splits her time between:
-- Galloping around the house/playing with her catnip mouse.
-- Disappearing downstairs to 'try things'.
-- Gazing out the living room window.
Her basement experiments are the most interesting, because there's always a range of noises that drift up the stairs, usually on the falling/crashing spectrum. I mostly leave her to it, because I'd rather she smash things down there than upstairs, but every now and then I venture into her world to make sure she hasn't hurt herself. Once I found her staring down at me from a perch that she must have shimmied across a wooden beam to reach. Shimmied upside-down and hanging by her claws, of course.
Staring out the window isn't that unusual, but her squat posture, with arms folded on the window sill, always gets to me. During the day, she sees the birds in the bushes, and at night she watches the city buses zoom by out on the main road and dreams about her great escape.
Oh Beany, what a rich inner life you have.
Your cats make me wish the cats I'd lived with hadn't driven me so insane and put me off cats forever. Beany and Booty always seem so nice.

What a wonderful cat! And now I feel better knowing that my cat Spock isn't alone in causing crashes in the house. Mainly, he likes the high Lego shelf with finished models. He swipes them off with a paw and watches them break to pieces.

I love that she appears to be leaning on the windowsill.

Beany sounds like a wonderful cat. My cats' only real hobby are to track down any fabric item in my house & then sit on it. Craft items always preferred.

We had a cat when I was growing up (well, he's still around, just living with my parents) who would do experiments like that. He would drop random things into his water dish just to see what would happen...and carefully knock objects off surfaces to the floor and watch them fall. I swear he was taking notes to publish a paper on physics or something! One of my cats now definatly has hobbies as well, like stomping, watching the budgies (and making them flutter!) and staring out each window in the house for a set period everyday. My other girl is like Booty...she is content to eat and sleep and get some loves occasionally. Beany is super cute.

i love her pose at the window, the kind of look that always enthralls me from the outside, a cat who's personality shows through their pose. course i then freak some by rustling for camera...unsuccessfully. wow, what a long word, so many doubles, i never noticed before.
i hope christmas and birthday were both the food filled feasts of wonder you were looking forward to. your vegan christmas food sounds like something we'd like to see, hope you had time for photo's.
i'm hoping the package will SURELY arrive this week if it hasn't already? oh how i hate waiting for post to arrive, either end. i'm currently waiting on my new scanner! at last, i can start scanning old work after at least 10yrs without one. but it was meant to be here before christmas (it was partly a gift) but never came. so now the wait. also apparently parcels from the states are somewhere floating around. more wait. if your's hasn't arrived by the end of next week i'll start asking them questions.
happy new year to you, princess of the plate xxx
