Oh, how shameful! Two links to my zipper pouch tutorial in one day equals loads of new visitors, and I haven't updated in ages. I've been busy enjoying autumn, you see. Popular autumn activities include eating bowls of vegetarian 'chicken' noodle soup and grilled cheeses:

Admiring the tree-lined streets in potential new neighbourhoods:

And watching squirrels, if you're a cat:

Yesterday was wonderfully warm. I was painting a chair outside and actually had to take off my pullover as the sun was so hot. Today, though, there's a chill in the air, and I was able to test out my new winter jacket (so cute!). I need to get a new paintbrush to put the last couple of coats on the chair and then I'll make a little slipcover for the padded back and then I'll post a picture of the transformation. In the meantime, you can help me decide whether I should stain my desk or paint it white. I think it would look fantastic stained dark, but priming and painting it white would be so much quicker!

Yes...I agree, it would be amazing stained dark... but it depends on what is going in the room around it. I think the dark-stained would be much more versatile, where as the white-washed/white look would have to fit the general decore of the room.

Love your kitty. It makes me miss mine.

Good luck on the house hunt! It looks like so much fun!

Stain it dark, stain it dark! Usually I am a big fan of white painted furniture, but that style just says rich and warm to me. Gorgeous desk.

Don't paint it!

Don't stain or paint it is my vote. It would sell for thousands at Anthropology just as it looks now... and the house wouldn't smell painty that way either.

I agree: don't paint *or* stain Booty. He's worth more just as he is.

I would say your options should be to stain or not to stain. I definitely wouldn't paint it though. Painting would be quick but I think it'd also be regrettable.

What neighborhoods are you looking at? There are so many wonderful possibilities.

May I join in?
If it were my desk, I actually have one very similar, I would beeswax it. That way it would be protected but not change colour. I wouldn't paint it white as it looks like the wood is just too beautiful. I think that to stain it dark might diminish it. I bet you wished you hadn’t asked. Whatever you do it looks like you are having such fun. The tree-lined streets are very pretty indeed. Have fun!

I should have mentioned that the desk's not just natural at the moment. It's got an uneven layer of stain, a light wash of cream-y coloured paint, some sort of varnish, and it also quite grubby. So it definitely needs something doing to it.

I would say the style of the desk calls for it to be stained. Somewhere between a medium and dark walnut. My dad has a desk of very similiar styling and it is stained dark walnut and looks gorgeous.
