So, interesting news. I was contacted by an American publisher regarding the tea cup cozy I made a while back and a crochet book they're doing for next year. It seems like a nice opportunity, so we'll see what happens.
Over lunch yesterday, Pauline and I decided it would be fun to have a cozy for regular drinking glasses. So last night, with a little Noro Silk Garden and ribbon, I made this:

I'm not crazy about the colours (these muddyish colours were on the inside of the skein, whereas the outside was bright and vivid and lovely), but I like the look and love the texture.
I proposed the idea of having alternate patterns for the teacup cozy to the American publisher -- I think the one for my Bodum mug might be too specific, and it's always nice to have options. He said he "[didn't] really care about the glass idea." Hm, okay then. And Rob thinks you can't put hot liquid into glass that isn't either toughened or very thin.
Will nobody love my little cozy? Actually, it's not so pathetic. I'm pleased with it, and Pauline thought it looked good, and I'm going to try breaking a drinking glass with hot water. That's practically science!
Please note: I never wrote up a pattern for this pattern, nor the teacup cozy. I'm very sorry, but I have no plan to do so.
I think its really pretty how sturdy is it? You could put a toilet roll inside it and have it as a pencil holder.. Just a mad idea. Oh, and boiling water will crack the glass. Hot water should be OK. How do I know this? I accidentally mixed up a 3 litre glass jar of acid dyes the other week and used boiling water. Jar cracked, 3 litres of boiling water and a generous helping of vinegar all over the floor.

i love it! i don't knit, but i asked my knitting friend to whip me up a coozy for my ever-in-th-hand water bottle. a water bottle coozy would be a great idea!!

Kerrie -- Eep! How scary, but at least the dye wasn't in yet, was it? THAT could've been a true disaster!

It would also be nice for cold liquids. Maybe keep them cold longer? I like the idea for the pencil holder but with a glass in the cozy. Just like in the picture. Or a bud vase cozy??

Autum -- I thought of the vase thing too! It'd be lovely to have a tall glass with a cozy that covered the entire thing, especially one like this, with a bow at the top. That may have to happen at some point. . .

Hehe, well I like it. Let us know how it turns out with the book!

I would say very scientific process figuring the breaking point of glass using hot liquid...safety goggles remember safety goggles...hehe

I will love your glass cozy! It will soak up all the condensation that forms on the glass and makes rings on the coffee table!

Well done and congratulations! :D
I think a tea-cup shape cozy would be fine. Most of the time people only use these patterns for inspiration anyway, or you could just find a standard sized cup to make it more workable for the average joe ^_^

I'm with Alicia, it's brilliant for catcing the condensation on a ice cold beverage.

Who says it has to be for hot liquids? When you have an iced drink, the glass sweats, and the cozy would be the perfect thing to absorb that moisture!

I think it's adorable, and honestly, I don't see why it can't be used for a cold beverage? My fingers get cold rather easily...

Another cute cozy! I like the ribbon you added.

Why not eliminate the tea cup or glass. I like the idea of a knitted cup or glass for artistic reasons. Rob has stated that you can identify Art as Art if it is a creation that has no practical purpose. I think a knitted water glass or tea cup would certainly fit that bill, and people pay much more for art than craft. You could design an entire knitted place setting and make millions! Just a thought.

Sorry to be serious for a moment, but it's all very strange. When I first stumbled out onto the Internet I thought I would find sites that covered everything I was interested in and as a bonus they would all be full of comments from fun people on the same wavelength as me. But every time I read comments or forums on any site they always descended into angry shoving within three or four posts, as though unappreciated, bitter people had at last found somewhere to be cruel to others without having to look them in the eye. That is until I started reading the comments Anna gets: everyone is polite, supportive, sincere and kind. It just seems like a better world that crafters live in. So I'm considering giving the Internet a second chance. But the first time someone posts, "Moron, read the ****ing FAQ" on a craft site I'm going back to being a hermit.

I'm not even a coffee drinker, but I know they serve them in glasses with little paper napkins (see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cafe_latte).
Oh, Rob - shut the fuck up, yeah?

I really love this pattern and I have already bought the Noro yarn to make it. I'll be happy to pay for it.
Thanks much.
